While it’s sad to see summer officially end, the silver lining is that the genealogy community calendar has some great things in store for those in the New York region is fall!
Those with New York ancestors will be interested in attending some great events taking place the last week of September:
NNYACGS Conference: Saturday, September 24th at 10:00am in Dannemora, New York
The Northern New York American-Canadian Genealogical Society (also known as the Clinton County Genealogical Society) is hosting a conference this Saturday, which is free and open to the public.
Denyse Beaugrand-Champagne, noted genealogist, researcher, and heir specialist, will be presenting at this event. Her talks will revolve around researching at the Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec.
The NNYACGS library will be open on Friday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 25th from 12pm to 5pm for research. Visit our Community Calendar for more details.
Tales of Ellis Island: Monday, September 26th at 7:00pm in Ridgewood, New Jersey
Special guest Fred Voss, Trustee of the Genealogical Society of Bergen County and tour guide and researcher at Ellis Island National Park, will present some of his favorite immigration stories from Ellis Island. Fred is an expert on Ellis Island history and has given previous lectures on the subject that received rave reviews.The event will take place at the Ridgewood Public Library and is free and open to the public.

INS Immigration Correspondence Files Webinar: Friday, September 30th at 1:00pm ET
This webinar is the latest in a series of webinars on INS Immigration Correspondence Files, and will expand on information available on the USCIS website.
The webinar will cover research approaches based on beginning with either arrival information or just family stories. Attendees will learn about the nature of the INS Subject Correspondence Index and why not all files are indexed by name.
