News You Can Use in Your New York Research

In the past few days, both Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org have updated some New York collections.

FamilySearch.org added new records to New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1891. This collection now contains 11,636,556 searchable records.

Ancestry.com added more records to two recently created collections: New York, Sing Sing Prison Admission Registers, 1865-1939 and New York, Clinton Prison Admission Ledgers, 1851-1866, 1926-1939. Both of those collections are freely available without paying for an Ancestry.com subscription thanks to the agreement Ancestry.com made with the New York State Archives. Go to this page and set up your free New York viewing account on Ancestry.com to access the records.

Ancestry.com also added new records to the collection New York State, Passenger and Crew Lists, 1917-1974. This collection requires an Ancestry.com subscription for access.
