News You Can Use in Your New York Research

Ancestry.com has been very busy lately, adding and updating its New York collections. Last week Ancestry.com added a new New York collection: Bronx County, New York, Divorce and Civil Case Records, 1914-1951, 1961-1995.  This collection contains 1314232 records.  As you may guess by the dates involved, this collection does not include actual digitized records, but the index to the minutes of the county clerk (the Bronx was not a county until 1914). Divorce records are not made public unless they are over 100 years old, and there may be restrictions placed on other records as well, especially those of civil commitment of mentally ill persons. Copies of the actual records (that are not subject to restrictions) can be requested from the Bronx County Clerk, http://bronxcountyclerkinfo.com/.
