The recent NYG&B tour of the Municipal Archives crashed through several brick walls of our members. Following a tour of the library and conservation lab, participants returned to the research room and dove into the microfilm records. One had been looking for her grandmother’s birth certificate for ten years and found it during the tour. Assistance by staff members widened the search parameters allowing the discovery of the certificate.
A novice at family history was able to find the death certificate of his cousin, who died before the birth of the researcher, confirming the family oral history that the cousin died in a traffic accident. With the date in hand, a Municipal Archives staff member assisted the researcher in finding a newspaper article telling the story of the tragic accident.
