Preservation Week 2014

preservation 1April 27- May 3 2014 is Preservation Week! Many libraries, museums, historical societies and other cultural organizations will be hosting events on preservation. These events can be especially helpful for the family historian who has collected materials but does not know the best ways to protect them from damage and preserve them for future generations. Events on preserving audio, video, family photographs, books, scrapbooks, and paper collections will all be held in locations throughout New York state during the week. Check the New York Family History School calendar for a Preservation Week event near you. Please note, as of this posting, the calendar at week had not been updated with all New York preservation week events. The New York Family History School calendar has the most comprehensive list of preservation week events, as well as genealogical events, throughout the New York region.

If you know of a Preservation Week event that is not on the New York Family History School calendar, please notify so that it may be included.

      Dear Mr. Taylor,
The NYG&B has a large selection of records online, from digital books to unique archival collections. Our most often used collection is of our periodical, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record. Every issue of The Record, going back to its first publication in 1870, is available and fully searchable online in our eLibrary for members. Cemetery and religious records transcriptions, WPA inventories for New York State, and unique archival collections have been digitized and are available in the eLibrary for members. In addition, there are a wide range of “How To” guides, Research Aid articles, and guides to the specific counties of New York State available on our website.
