The People and Monuments of New York City

The New York Times reports on some of the 800 historical monuments in New York City parks which honor individuals and events that helped shape the city: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/12/nyregion/dotting-the-parks-monuments-to-the-famous-or-forgotten.html?emc=eta1&_r=0  .

The NYC Department of Parks maintains a database of Permanent Art and Monuments in the parks, which provides narrative information and pictures for each entry and may be searched by name, location, and keywords, such as nationality or religion.
