Tomorrow, Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2pm, join the NYPL for their program, “Researching with E-Resources: Periodicals and Newspapers.” Explore the current and historical newspapers and periodicals available online through NYPL.
Newspapers are an often over-looked genealogical resource, and can provide so much more information about our ancestors than birth, death, and marriage records. If you cannot make it to the program at the New York Public Library, visit Stanford University’s online newspaper project, which shows an interactive timeline to show the spread of newspapers from the eastern seaboard across the country. You can pinpoint what newspapers would have been available for your relatives at any particular time or place, and narrow your selections by the language of the newspaper. Of particular help to genealogical researchers, when you click on a particular newspaper title, you are taken to bibliographic information about the periodical, with a link to see what libraries possess the issues.
