Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7, 2014, the NYPL is presenting “CItizen Cartography.” This workshop orients you with tools (available at maps.nypl.org) enabling librarians and the public to add valuable geographic context to old maps. The workshop focuses on the website’s core activity: georectification, or “warping” maps. This means overlaying digital images of historic maps onto a contemporary digital map (similar to Google Maps), transforming them into tiles of a virtual atlas. Although the program will focus on New York City, these skills can be applied to any digital map. This program will be held in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, in South Court Classroom A at 6pm.
