Ancestry has begun compiling guides to each of the 50 States. New York is now available online. While brief, it does contain a list of all of Ancestry.com’s collections which pertain to New York, as well as lists of resources outside of Ancestry.com, such as the NYG&B! You can access the New York State guide and the New York collections from the New York Ancestry page here.
The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society mourns the death of David Kleiman, a loyal and unusually generous friend of the Society. David was a member of the Education Committee, adding immense insight to all of the committee’s deliberations. He also was the leader of the Computers and Genealogy Group that meets monthly at the NYG&B headquarters. A more detailed tribute will appear in the spring issue of the New York Researcher.
FamilySearch.org has added more than 2.7 million indexed records and images to its collections. The additions were announced yesterday, January 16, 2014. None of the record groups pertain to New York State, but may help you with other branches of your family tree.

The New York Times reported on the new collections added to Ancestry.com, which we announced on January 14. The records, really an index to more than 10 million New York City birth, marriage and death records from 1866 to 1948, are available through Ancestry.com free of charge, due to the agreement made with the city’s Department of Records. The NYC Department of Parks maintains a database of Permanent Art and Monuments in the parks, which provides narrative information and pictures for each entry and may be searched by name, location, and keywords, such as nationality or religion.
