News You Can Use In Your New York Research

A few days ago, Ancestry.com put up these new military databases relating to New York:

  • New York, Sales of Loyalist Land, 1762-1830: 575 records.
  • New York, Naturalization Papers, 1799-1847: 840 records
  • New York, Alien Depositions of Intent to Become U.S. Citizens, 1825-1871: 25,133 records
  • New York, Grand Army of the Republic Records, 1866-1931: 25,592 records
  • New York, War of 1812 Payroll Abstracts for New York State Militia, 1812-1815: 95,494 records
  • New York, Mexican Punitive Campaign Muster Rolls for National Guard, 1916-1917: 22,468 records
  • New York, Spanish-American War Military and Naval Service Records, 1898-1902: 56,974 records

Using SecondSite to Create a Family History CD or Web Site

Tonight at 7:30 pm, the Long Island TMG Users Group will be meeting at the Plainview Family History Center, 160 Washington Ave, Plainview, NY.  Speaker Mark Waldron will provide an overview on how to use SecondSite to create a family history CD or website.  All are welcome to attend.   For more information on this and other genealogy programs in the New York region, check the New York Family History School calendar.  

Genealogy After Dark: Fenton History Center’s lock-in

Genealogy after dark

On Saturday, January 11, 2014, the Fenton History Center will hold a fundraiser from 1pm to midnight.  Attendees with be able to participate in mini sessions about available databases and other resources, as well as door prizes, food and fun.  Staff and volunteers will provide their expertise and knowledge in family history to aid researchers.   Space is limited and those interested are urged to register early.
